The Dark Witch...

Jessica felt sorry for the lady. She was always alone and generally kept to herself. Like a creature of habit, she walked the same trail everyday. Looking down at her feet most of the time; she rarely looked anyone directly in the eyes.

One day, Jessica decided to talk to her. She felt bad for the lady who always wore black. Maybe she wears it because shes in morning. Maybe she wears it because she likes it. The way the other ladies in town stared her up and down was down right cruel. How could they all be so mean? Besides, the lady in black seemed fine to her.

She was sure that if she presented herself friendly; perhaps they'd become great friends. Most of the time; like the woman; Jessica often felt shunned and ostracized. So one day she decided to change all that. She decided to reach out to the lady who always hid behind her veil.

Clearing her throat, she stepped up to her. "Hello, my name is Jessica. I don't mean to be a bother, but since we pass each other every day I wanted to formally introduce myself."
The lady paused for a moment as she clutched a dark book close to her chest. She lifted her head in surprise as no one ever talked to her.
"Well...hello... um its nice to meet you."She paused for minute. "My name is Raven."
Jessica smiled warmly and nervously pulled at her fingers. "I see you walking to the library everyday and I was happy to know someone else who enjoyed reading as much as I do. I don't have many friends around here so I read a lot for companionship."
The lady smiled casually as her sparkling eyes peered through the thin veil. "Not many friends?" she asked.
Jessica shook her head 'no' while biting her bottom lip.
"Well...I don't have a lot of friends either. So perhaps we could visit the library together sometime. I'd love to get to know you better and share my readings with you."
Jessica's lips turned up in a bow. She had finally come out of her shell. Today she did something that was totally out of character. She'd put her self out there and made a new friend in return. "Yes, sure... I'd love that!" She glanced down at the lady's hand. "If you don't mind me asking. What kind of books do you like to read?"
"Ahh... I read many things. I have a very eclectic taste I guess you could say."
"Oh, that sounds interesting. I like variety too. Are there any good reads you could recommend?"
The lady's heart began to race as a wave of heat surged through her body. This was going to be easier than she thought. This young lady was leaving the door wide open for her. Now was the time for her to make her move. Now was the time for her to reveal the truth. Lifting the veil off her face she pushed it gently over her head.

Jessica gasped as a deathly chill raced up her spine. Suddenly she grew very afraid. The lady had no color in her eyes. Her iris were as clear as crystals save the dark pupil in the center.
"Are you sure you're ready to study with me?" inquired the lady as she moved closer to the young girl. "Are you sure you are ready for all mysteries to be revealed? Are you ready to drink from a well that never runs dry?...
